When the life sentence was handed down, ‘a cold sweat’ went through Nicolaus’ body, but he made an effort not to show anything outwardly. He was proud and took pride in never showing weakness or fear in front of guards and judges. Nicolaus Magnus S\u00f6derman had not yet turned 21 when he was sentenced to life imprisonment in March 1848.
