In these 18th- and 19th-century buildings, you\u2019ll spend the night in our charming rooms, just as thousands of soldiers have done over the years. <\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/6&#8243;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;3377&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221; css_animation=&#8221;left-to-right&#8221;][vc_column_text]<strong>The Dungeon.<\/strong>  At first, the soldiers at Carlsten lived in the large halls up by the tower. In the 1840s, the new barracks in the southern Donjon were completed. They could accommodate 600 soldiers and officers, who slept in hammocks suspended from the ceiling. Cannons were positioned in the windows facing the sea to defend the southern harbor entrance. The Donjon was renovated to its current condition in 2003.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;3375&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221; css_animation=&#8221;left-to-right&#8221;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;.vc_custom_1484652783515{padding-bottom: 0px !important;}&#8221;]<strong>The Commandant\u2019s House<\/strong> was built of brick in 1775 for the commandant and the noble prisoners. The house also housed Carlsten\u2019s only female prisoner, Metta Charlotta Fock, who was accused of poisoning her children and her husband. All groups that book with us are assigned a private room. All rooms are unique and have their own shower and toilet (some rooms have a private shower and toilet just outside the room). Check-in is usually after lunch or by arrangement. Check-out is at 11:00 a.m. on the day of departure.
