Welcome to a journey through time you’ll never forget. A guided tour of Carlsten Fortress is an exciting adventure that takes you back to days gone by, with incredible stories about prisoners and the harsh life at the fortress.

General Information About Guided Tours
From June through August, regular guided tours in Swedish are offered according to the schedule above. The tour lasts about 45 minutes and ends inside the fortress, so you can then explore on your own at your leisure. The guided tour is included in the admission fee. NOTE: If you are a large group wishing to join a regular tour, you must call and let us know in advance.

Additional Guided Tours
If you’d like a guided tour at times other than the regular ones or in English, you can book one year-round.
We can also arrange for a guide dressed in period costume. If you’d like to have light refreshments during the tour, you can pre-order them. For suggestions and pricing information, please contact us.
(NOTE: Cancellations for additional guided tours must be made at least 24 hours before the scheduled time; otherwise, the guide fee will be charged.)

Explore on Your Own
After purchasing an admission ticket, you can explore the fortress on your own. Throughout the grounds, there are signs describing the various vaults, passageways, and other features. You can also purchase a booklet detailing the fortress’s history and maps at the ticket office. If you have international guests with you, guide sheets are available in several languages.
